If you are at a certain age, the idea of chair yoga could awaken memories of the “Sit and Be Fit” commercials of the 90s, in which mainly elderly people were seen. But chair yoga can be for everyone of any age, shape, gender, etc. to participate in. This is a super accessible form of Yoga, in fact, that should give everyone the feeling of being welcome in the practice, even if the headstands will never happen for them. And in the recent episode of Good Moves, BK Yoga Club co-founder Paris Alexander shows how fun (and attractive!) it can be to get in shape while you are sitting.
“Today we are going to do chair yoga, and you can do it comfortably at home or in the office,” she says. “The great thing is that you literally take a short 10-15 minute break and do some really cool chair stretches.”
The Chair is both a Crutch and a Decor. It can help those without Yoga experience balance more easily, people with certain disabilities participate more generally in the practice and give those who simply want to stretch their body in the middle of the working day an easily accessible option—no need for mats, blocks or other special equipment.
This particular flow of stool is gentle and constantly promotes self-care. “Maybe give you a little love, a nice little massage,” she says at one point from the river. “It honors the tenderness in our body.”
This is a message that few of us can hear enough. Press Play to try your hand(butt?) in this 15 minute Yoga Flow chair.
